Your LASIK Procedure
Your LASIK Procedure Step-By-Step
Our process is designed to be quick, smooth, and comfortable. The entire LASIK procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, about 10-15 minutes per eye. The actual laser treatment usually lasts less than 20 seconds per eye with preparation taking up the rest of the time.
Step 1: Anesthetic drops are applied to your eyes to keep them completely numb and relaxed.
Step 2: Our surgeon, Dr. Hammonds, uses the latest in laser technology—no blades or needles—to create a thin, hinged flap on the surface of your cornea. This flap is gently lifted to access the underlying corneal tissue.
Step 3: A second laser, guided by precise computer calculations, reshapes your cornea to correct your vision. Once complete, the flap is carefully repositioned and naturally adheres without the need for stitches.
Step 4: Your procedure is finished! You will notice an immediate improvement in vision, though experiencing some blurriness is normal as your eyes start to heal. Dr. Hammonds will provide detailed post-operative care instructions, including the use of eye drops and protective shields to ensure optimal healing.

Your Recovery
Recovery and Follow-up Care After LASIK
Recovery is fast, with vision improvement noticeable almost immediately. You’ll need someone to drive you home and keep your eyes closed to allow healing. Wear protective eye shields while sleeping for the first week.
A follow-up exam will be scheduled for the next day, with additional check-ups at one week, one month, and three months, which can be done by your regular eye doctor.
Most patients can return to normal activities, including driving, within a few days.
